A 32-year-old Indian expatriate from Kerala tragically died after falling from Jebel Jais Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah. SM, a resident of Dubai, was on a camping trip with three friends during the extended National Day break when the accident occurred.
In an interview with Khaleej Times, his roommate, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that SM suddenly disappeared, prompting his friends to alert the authorities when they couldn’t find him. “The group reached the mountain on Monday night and camped there,” said Nassar Al Maha, president of Incas and representative of the World Malayali Council.
The tragic incident took place early Tuesday morning. His friends immediately contacted the police, and authorities confirmed his death. His body was then transferred to Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah.
Al Maha emphasized the need for caution when visiting mountainous areas like Jebel Jais, especially when engaging in risky activities such as taking photos near cliff edges.
The roommate, who traveled to Kerala yesterday, mentioned that SM’s body had been flown back after all formalities were completed. “I’m currently at Kannur airport to receive his body. His final rites will be held soon,” he said.
SM and his friends frequently went on road trips and outings during holidays. “We both worked for the same company—I’m in the body shop, and he worked as a mechanical supervisor,” he explained. “I couldn’t join them that day due to work commitments, but we usually went on trips together. That day, he left work early and traveled to Ras Al Khaimah with our other friends.”
Having known SM for over four years, the roommate expressed disbelief at his friend’s passing. The two had been roommates, living together in an apartment in Al Quoz.
