Jay Shah, the newly-elected President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), began his tenure with a visit to the ICC headquarters in Dubai. This marked his first visit to the headquarters since assuming his new role on December 1. During the trip, Shah met with the ICC Board of Directors and staff. His appointment comes at a time when tensions are high between Pakistan and India regarding the venue for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Shah referred to the visit as an invaluable opportunity to connect with ICC Board members, where they discussed the initial plans and strategies for the future of global cricket. “This visit provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with my colleagues on the ICC Board where we discussed the initial roadmap and strategies to shape the future of this incredible sport,” Shah said. He also expressed his delight in meeting the ICC team working tirelessly behind the scenes.
Describing the visit as “productive and inspiring,” Shah acknowledged the work ahead. “While I am encouraged by what I have seen, I recognize that this is just the beginning. The hard work to elevate cricket to unprecedented heights starts now, and I am confident that together, we will deliver on this vision.”
ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja also praised Shah for his ambitious vision. “On behalf of the Board, I would like to welcome Mr. Jay Shah to the role and share our enthusiasm for his tenure,” Khawaja said. “Mr. Shah’s ambition and experience will be instrumental in guiding the ICC and the sport into the future. It has been a very productive visit for everyone, and we look forward to working alongside him, the members, and the ICC team to achieve success.”
Shah succeeded Greg Barclay, who held the position since November 2020. Meanwhile, the ICC’s meeting regarding the Champions Trophy 2025 has been postponed once again. During the brief discussion today, the ICC advised the Pakistan Cricket Board to accept a hybrid model as the only viable option. The meeting has now been rescheduled for December 7.
