The director of the popular movies ‘Joy Ride, Raya and the Last Dragon, Crazy Rich Asian’ is now directing the ‘Princess Diaries 3.’
“As a diehard fan of the original ‘Princess Diaries,’ I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
Producing the movie is Debra Martin Chase, who started the franchise that starred Julie Andrews as the regal grandmother of Anne Hathaway’s character, Mia Thermopolis, a down-to-earth youngster who becomes queen of the made-up realm of Genovia. Under her Somewhere Pictures label, Hathaway will produce as well. Melissa Stack and Naia Cucukov, who were partners in production at 100 Tigers with Lim, will be the executive producers of the movie.

Princess Diaries 3
“Princess Diaries 3” has been in development since 2022 and, last year, Hathaway shared an update about the long-awaited movie’s progress in an interview with V Magazine. “We’re in a good place,” Hathaway teased. “There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place.”
Flora Greeson wrote the screenplay. Although the plot of the threequel is unknown, it is anticipated that it will build on “The Princess Diaries” (2001) and its 2004 sequel, “Royal Engagement,” rather than start over.
The film “Crazy Rich Asians,” which Warner Bros. released with a $30 million budget and went on to gross $174 million domestically, is best known for having been written by Lim. It became one of the most profitable romantic comedies ever, earning nominations for best picture at the Golden Globes and Producers Guild Awards in addition to taking home the Critics Choice Award.
